We went for an early dinner after visiting The House Of Seven Gables. They were very busy and I think could have done with additional wait staff or more people in the kitchen. The owner was there checking on things, but it didn't seem he noticed the long waits. Our waitress was great: friendly and very helpful. The kids menu had a decent variety for those who don't like fish, and we all liked the warm pretzels. The adults ate lots of seafood and fish. A generous amount of delicious, buttery lobster in the lobster pie. The lobster bisque and scallops were also very good. I had the fried seafood platter, which came with shrimp, scallops and local haddock. The potato wedges were addictive! The specialty Mimosas with Pomegranate and grapefruit were refreshing and not strong on the alcohol. We were celebrating a birthday and the restaurant very thoughtfully put a card on the table and reminded us to order a complimentary birthday dessert. We chose the sticky toffee pudding, which I didn't get to taste, but I'm sure it was amazing!
Stopped in for dinner on New Years Eve on a recommendation from a friend. The dining room was booked for the night and we were about to leave when the hostess offered us 2 seats at the bar. Lucky for us we didn't leave! Drinks were well made. I had an aperol spritz. Very tasty and easy to drink. I had the Caesar salad for an appetizer. Every piece of lettuce was coated with dressing. The salad had big shavings of Parmesan cheese. I had the fish and chips for my entree. It was the best fish and chips I've ever had. The fish was golden and crunchy on the outside with chunks of fresh fish that melts in your mouth on the inside. There were no empty bites. It had a crisp, light outer fried shell you it wasn't over-fried. French fries were hand-cut slices of potato also friend to perfection. So glad we found this place. It was amazing.
We came here in a rainy Wednesday, and this place was packed. We ended up waiting outside for about 20 minutes, but it was definitely worth the wait. I got the Clam chowder and my wife got the lobster bisque. They were both pretty delicious. I ordered the seafood medley which tasted great. The fish was well seasoned and cooked well. The scallops and shrimp were fresh. The fries and greens were good sides depending on what you are looking for. Overall, I could see why everyone was trying to get into this place.
Cannot get over the wonderful service here. We had Tory as a server and she was ABSOLUTELY fantastic. She took care of us and had amazing recommendations for us. Will definitely be coming back.
Turner's is an instant classic, a relatively new place that seems like it could have been opened in 1923 and been in various magazines, 12 Must-Visits In New England and such. The finnan haddie is stellar, with the powerful smoked haddock in a compelling pearl onion au gratin sauce. The waitress was outstanding, providing crucial advice about the sides (parmesan risotto cake and spinach with garlic FTW). We had a good discussion on food tourism and the notion of places that put a "modern twist" on classics that drastically alters them. On that note, Turner's had an exemplary old-timey Indian pudding special. I can't speak to the probability of its reappearance but if you see it, try it.
During my visit to New England we spent an afternoon in Salem. It was super hot that day so it was nice to find air conditioning. We were seated super quick for dinner, and the service was friendly. The interior is rustic and charming. It felt upscale but also homey. I enjoyed my fish sandwich a lot! It was tender and fried just right. The onion rings went nicely with it too. If in the area I would return too. The prices were extremely reasonable for the area.
Came here for dinner. I got the 6 oysters for starters, and then the Hake Marsala for my entree. Both were fantastic! My entree was bigger than expected. Service was friendly and attentive. I got the bread pudding special for dessert. It was okay. A bit too sweet for my taste but portions were big. Overall, great service and great seafood. Not a tourist trap restaurant in Salem. Warning: It does smell heavily of seafood in there so you will probably leave smelling like a seafood restaurant especially if you're sitting near the open kitchen.
We had a great lunch here, enjoying the food, service and ambiance. We made a reservation for 12:15 and our party of four was immediately seated. It wasn't very busy yet, but by the time we left, there was a line outside the door. We ordered: * Bread Loaf $4 * (3) Crab Cakes Dinner $32 Oven roasted Jonah Crab Cakes served with Remoulade sauce and your choice of two sides. Seasonings dijon mustard, parsley, and Old Bay. * Seafood Medley Entree $36 (Baked) Local haddock fillet, Wild 21/25 shrimp, and local sea scallops cooked your way with a choice of 2 sides. The bread loaf arrived quickly, hot and crusty on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Nicely done! My Seafood Medley was excellent, I chose baked with breadcrumbs over fried. Everything was cooked perfectly, the haddock was fresh, the shrimp cooked nicely and the scallops were tasty. The chef must have leveraged a lot of butter in this dish (yup, one of the reasons it was tasty) and some lemon. I was very happy I chose this dish. My co-diners all went for the crabcakes, and gave them a thumbs up. The portions are large here, and two diners each brought home a crabcake. A five -star review on this particular day. We'd be delighted to return here!
Very nice seafood restaurant. Our entrees were fresh and served piping hot. Well,, except for the shrimp cocktail which was served perfectly chilled. Our sever was attentive and the ambiance inviting. Reservations are probably best for dinner.
Turner's restored my faith back in restaurants and the dining experience! Excellent food, service, and atmosphere! Was able to get oyster bar seating after a brief wait in line outside on a weekday night. Lively atmosphere in a vintage, timeless bar/grill aesthetic. Tip top service by all the staff- true professional, personable, and timely staff. Enjoyed a watching the staff in the oyster bar- very efficient operation and contributed to the cozy and welcoming vibe. Also appreciated the gentleman (manager) checking to see how the experience was going post-meal. True and classic approach to service dining. We ordered special Nantucket scallops at the recommendation of the server with the vest, hat, and pinstripe pants. Excellent flavor- cooked perfectly, beyond delicious. Also ordered the crab cake appetizer- also solid pick- atypical crab cake, more fluffy and less formed but great flavor and well complimented by slaw. Lastly, we ordered the 6 oz tenderloin steak with rice and asparagus. This was an off pick for a place known for seafood but it was delicious. Tender and cooked to order. Wine reduction sauce was on point. Asparagus fresh and cooked until tender. Rice would have been better as rice pilaf or something beyond regular cooked jasmine rice.
